Why is wild so special?

Spring time in Newfoundland is absolutely my favourite time of year. It's a time shake off Winter's cobwebs and to breathe deeply and feel the undeniable sense of renewal. Here at the edge of the earth, we operate in accordance with the biodynamics of wild growing cycles. This means that we work consciously and in sync with the natural rhythms of the earth, resulting in distinctly seasonal batches. Ethical wildcrafting involves more than just harvesting, it takes emotional connection to place, and a deep understanding of the synergy of the land. Hello Spring!

Oh, how we have been waiting for this day! When Spring finally arrives here in Newfoundland, we collectively breathe a sigh of gratitude. Not that we don't love all the wonderful things that Winter brings...like cozy nights in front of a fire, warm socks, hot baths, long walks in the crisp winter air, catching snowflakes on your tongue and so many more lovely wintry things, but Spring! A couple of years ago I started to dabble in making hair care products in an effort to move away from chemical-laden shampoos and conditioners. Can they make your hair look shiny, bouncy and oh-so-soft? You betcha! But at a cost. Both to your heath AND to the environment – where all of the things we use in our showers and baths eventually end up. Skin safe synthetic fragrances? Glitter? (GLITTER?!) Mica powders? No thanks!
